Short description

Over the past few decades, breeders of the Entlebucher Mountain Dog have noticed a decrease in their dogs’ litter size.

General information

Over the past few decades, breeders of the Entlebucher Mountain Dog have noticed a decrease in their dogs’ litter size. Litters have decreased from an average of 6.2 puppies in the 1980s to 5.4 in the 2010s. This decrease in fertility has been linked in part to a mutation on the gene GDF9.
